So, aesthetic dental work involves any dental treatment or work that can affect your smile. Hence it usually involves the upper and lower front teeth. A smile plays a very vital role for any individual and is a large part of one’s personality. A bright confident smile adds a lot to one’s personality.
We at Dr Kandhari’s Skin and Dental Clinic believe that if you are unhappy with your smile, we will find a solution to make you happy. Cosmetic dentistry has a large array of treatments or procedures ranging from a simple whitening treatment to a full mouth rehabilitation.
What is most important is the treatment planning that needs to be thorough and discussed in detail between your aesthetic dentist and yourself. You should be clearly aware of the treatment type or procedures involved, duration, costs and many other factors.
Questions you should ask before deciding on your cosmetic dental treatment
1. What are the various procedures involved in my smile designing?
It could involve teeth whitening, composite or tooth colored fillings, veneers, invisible braces are just some of the procedures involved in smile designing.
2. Is everything explained to you in detail?
Make sure you understand every aspect of the treatment involved like the time taken or duration of treatment, costing, procedural steps ect
3. An understanding of the final result?
You should have a clear picture of the final result that can be expected. In some cases the reality may not match your expectations from the cosmetic treatment. Once you know how much correction can be achieved and there is an understanding between you and your dentist, the outcome can be much better.
WHAT WILL WORK
It is always much better to know what are the various treatment options like whether or not teeth whitening will work for you?
In some cases like fluorosis or decalcified enamel, teeth bleaching or whitening can cause the white or discoloured spots to become even more stark and white. This can make the teeth look more unaesthetic than before.
When will Veneers work?
Veneers may not work for very protruding teeth as veneers may not be able to push or position the severely protruding or bulging teeth. Veneers work best for teeth with gaps or spaces in between, chipped or discoloured teeth, mildly maligned teeth.
In case of severe malocclusion, Orthodontic treatment or invisible braces is the best option.
However, in cases of mild spacing or crowding, veneers can work beautifully to correct the smile. Lab made ceramic veneers are a better option in the long run as they are sturdy with a better finish and appearance. Also they are cemented in place and have lesser chances of displacement.
The biggest advantage of these are they do not stain or discolour, irrespective of your habits. wether one is a smoker or takes black coffee or aerated drinks, it does not affect the colour and finish of the veneers. Also the finish and appearance of the ceramic veneers are excellent and closely match the natural teeth.
Also since they are cemented, there are very little chances of it getting displaced or lost.
However in all cases of severe malalignment like crowding, spacing or teeth present completely out of the arch only veneers will not work. In such cases we need to do orthodontic treatment or braces to fix the position of the teeth.
These are called clear aligners or adult braces where transparent trays are used for the treatment. These are highly aesthetic with no wires or brackets present. The aligners are completely invisible and one can go on with their treatment with minimum hinderance to their daily life.
Another very big advantage is that it does not cause any dietary restrictions due to the absence of wires and clips. Since the aligners need to be removed before eating or drinking any hot fluids, all types of food can be enjoyed by the patient unlike the conventional fixed braces. This is truly a revolutionary technology wherein the patient can undergo complete Orthodontic treatment comfortably even if they are travelling.
Things to know before undergoing any aesthetic treatment
- How much time will the full treatment take?
- How many sittings or visits to the clinic is needed?
- What will be the costing involved?
- How invasive will the treatment be that means will it involve tooth reduction or gum surgery Ect
- What will be the downtime that is the time required for healing or the prosthesis to be made or in other words, how long before the final result or outcome of the treatment shows.
Once the above things are clear, you can go ahead and plan your aesthetic dental journey.
